Program: Institutional Development (ID)

The Institutional Development (ID) program is designed to address Romania’s evolving strategies for the promotion of EU standards, democracy, and social progress. The ID project supports improvements to the reach and quality of services for at-risk youth and other marginalized populations by helping communities establish and strengthen local institutional capacity. Volunteers initiate efforts to strengthen the organizational and management skills of related NGOs and governmental agencies dealing with institutionalized children, abused children, minority issues, HIV/AIDS prevention, and youth development.

Volunteers have experience in special education, health, community service, working with youth-at-risk, NGO development, social work and public administration. Volunteers work with non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and local governmental agencies, and support the development of inter- and intra-sector partnerships. In some cases Volunteers work directly with beneficiaries, while in other cases they help NGO staff and Romanian volunteers build stronger, sustainable organizations and partnerships.

ID Volunteers are helping communities establish and strengthen local institutional capacity and helping Romanian organizations to:

• Provide social services to beneficiaries in marginalized populations
• Build strong, sustainable programs and organizations to deliver services
• Promote partnerships among nonprofit and governmental organizations

In addition to providing the transfer of skills with their local counterpart agencies, ID Volunteers collaborate with national or international partners such as Principesa Margareta, Habitat for Humanity, RENINCO, Special Olympics.

ID Volunteers' Projects

The following are several highlighted projects

COME WALK WITH ME!

One day, during one of his morning jogs it suddenly occurred to a Volunteer that a great way to create public awareness and encourage social inclusion of the disabled would be through an exercise program, in public, along the streets and parks of Timisoara. Everyone should exercise, whether one is intellectually disabled or a university professor, thought the Volunteer, so why not walk the streets and parks of Timisoara together in an effort to promote awareness and social inclusion through exercise?
A private sports equipment company agreed with the idea, and the company outfitted the Volunteer and his group from Pentru Voi with shoes, t-shirts and caps. They also agreed the public might need a little "push" to join in, so they donated an additional 200 t-shirts, caps and backpacks to give away to those people who choose to join the weekly walks with Pentru Voi beneficiaries.
